Teachers

imageA child’s school experience is no longer only about the academic education of the child, but also about the wellbeing of the whole child; we know that a healthy and happy child is will be a better learner. A recent study found that students who have health insurance miss three fewer days of school every year than their uninsured peers. While teachers often know when a child is having health problems, they do not always have the resources or time required to help the child and his or her family. THK Health Outreach only asks teachers to pass on information about available resources to help improve the health of their students. Designed with teachers in mind, this project does not require any additional paperwork. Within the THK Health Outreach project, teachers have the opportunity to promote the more comprehensive health outreach project or they can be conduits of information in order to help individual families. The first step to helping students who may not have health insurance is for their families to learn about the no or low cost programs that are available to them.
